Disarmament and International Security Committee

The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) was founded in 1945, serving as the primary committee for discussing the preservation of peace and safety on an international scale.

While DISEC itself cannot force countries to follow its mandate, it is able to recommend countries and organizations to take meaningful action to make the world a safer and more peaceful place. Additionally, DISEC actively works to tackle important topics such as the illicit arms trade. Since 1945, DISEC has endorsed numerous international treaties and influenced many decisions made by the UN as a whole, including treaties banning the proliferation of Nuclear weapons, prohibiting the usage of bacteriological and toxin weapons, in addition to the prohibition of chemical weapons.

Recently, DISEC has demonstrated its importance by addressing present issues, including nuclear weapons and the militarisation of space. Regardless of DISEC's limited jurisdiction over the affairs of sovereign states, it plays an instrumental role in making our world a better and safer place.
