200 years after the founding of Piltover, political tensions escalate between twin city-states: Piltover and Zaun. The former, an industrialist plutocracy in control of lucrative trading ports and pioneering technological advancements, rife with corruption. The latter, a pollution-addled undercity legislatively under the jurisdiction of Piltover, governs itself through an oligarchy composed of crime syndicate leaders, or chem-barons. The undercity’s dissent—stemming from years of exploitation and alienation by its topside counterpart—comes to a head with the development of a new technology that could promise economic freedom and a fighting chance against Piltovan oppression… at the price of rampant addiction and more exploitation.
