World Health Organization

WHO, what, where, when, why? As the first "W" in the list of five, WHO, known as the World Health Organization, is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that focuses on global public health. It was founded in 1948 after World War II to promote international cooperation in public health and prevent global health crisis. In their goal to a healthier world, they have been focusing on global missions including: universal health coverage, preventive care, global cooperation, and equity in health. Currently, WHO has aligned their goals with the ambitious Triple Billion targets-- a measurement and a policy strategy meant to improve WHO's impact on a wider scale.

These three billion goals are:

- 1 billion more people benefitting from universal health coverage

- 1 billion more people better protected from health emergencies

- 1 billion more people enjoying better health and well-being.

As a staple General Assembly of Model United Nations conferences, WHO is a beginner-friendly committee that welcomes its doors to all delegates. So ask yourself WHO you are, and whether or not you’re ready to change the world’s health, one policy at a time.
